Battery Backup

Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, GM Energy, and other home battery systems — quiet, instant, app-monitored, and solar-ready.

GM Energy battery backup installation

What we install

Battery backup is the modern alternative to a standby generator: silent, instant, no fuel runs, and ready to pair with solar. We install whole-home and critical-load systems with the right inverter setup and a code-compliant rapid-shutdown disconnect.

  • Tesla Powerwall (single or stacked)
  • Enphase IQ Battery systems with IQ8 microinverters
  • GM Energy PowerBank and Ultium-based home storage
  • Hybrid inverters for grid-tied and off-grid configurations
  • Critical-load sub-panels for partial backup setups
  • Rapid-shutdown service disconnects per NEC 690.12

Why customers pick Ark

The details that make the difference on every job.

Solar-ready, day one

We use hybrid inverters and AC-coupled designs that work with solar today, or let you add it later without re-doing the install.

Whole-home or critical loads

Want every outlet to keep running? Multi-Powerwall whole-home backup. Want to save money? Critical-load panel that prioritizes essentials.

App-monitored health

Tesla, Enphase, and GM all have excellent monitoring apps. We commission the system so you can see state-of-charge, usage, and health in real time.

Code-compliant safety

Rapid-shutdown disconnects, proper service equipment, and labeling that meets NEC 690 and current AHJ requirements.

Quiet and instant

Unlike generators, batteries kick on in milliseconds — your computer doesn't reboot. And there's no engine to wake the neighbors.

Honest brand fit

Tesla isn't right for every home. Neither is Enphase, GM, or anyone else. We'll recommend the system that fits your loads, your roof, and your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this service. If yours isn't here, give us a call.

Battery backup or a generator — which should I get?
Batteries are quieter, instant, fuel-free, and pair with solar. Generators give you unlimited runtime as long as you have fuel. For short-to-medium outages and for solar pairing, batteries usually win. For multi-day outages without solar, generators have an edge. Many of our customers do both.
How long will a battery run my home?
Depends on the battery size and what you're running. A single Tesla Powerwall (13.5 kWh) might run essentials for a day or two; whole-home backup with multiple Powerwalls and solar can keep going indefinitely.
Can I add solar later if I install a battery now?
Yes — and that's why we use hybrid inverters and AC-coupled designs. Adding solar later is straightforward and won't require rebuilding the battery install.
Does battery backup work with my existing panel?
Usually yes. Sometimes a critical-load sub-panel is needed for partial backup, or a service upgrade is recommended for whole-home backup with multiple batteries. We assess this during the quote visit.
How long does installation take?
Most single-battery installs are completed in 1–2 days. Larger systems with multiple batteries, sub-panels, or solar coordination can take 3–5 days plus utility coordination and inspection.
Are there rebates or tax credits available?
Yes — the federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (currently 30% of qualified costs) typically covers home battery storage when paired with solar, and increasingly when standalone. We'll point you to current programs but recommend verifying with your tax preparer.
