Electrical Panel Upgrades
100A to 200A upgrades, full service replacements, and smart panels — done with utility coordination start to finish.

What we install
If you're adding an EV charger, heat pump, induction range, or solar — and your panel is older than 25 years or under 200A — an upgrade is usually the right move. We handle the whole project: utility coordination, meter base, service mast, panel, and inspection.
- 100A → 200A service upgrades
- Service mast, weatherhead, and meter base replacement
- Modern main breaker panels (Square D, Eaton, Siemens)
- Smart panels — Span, Lumin, Schneider Square D Energy Center
- Whole-home surge protective devices (SPDs)
- Sub-panels for additions, garages, ADUs, and shops
Why customers pick Ark
The details that make the difference on every job.
Utility coordination, handled
We schedule the disconnect with DTE or Consumers Energy, manage the rebuild, and get the meter set — you don't have to navigate the utility paperwork.
Same-day power back
Most residential service upgrades are completed in a single day. Power off in the morning, power back on by evening.
Future-proof sizing
We don't just match your existing service — we size for what you'll add over the next 10–15 years (EV, heat pump, battery backup).
Smart panels available
Want app-controlled circuits, real-time energy monitoring, and load-shedding for solar/battery? We install Span, Lumin, and Square D Energy Center.
Surge protection included
We recommend whole-home surge protection on every upgrade — protects appliances, EV charger, generator, and electronics from utility surges.
Permitted and inspected
Service work requires permits and inspections. We pull the permit, do the work to current NEC, and get the sign-off.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about this service. If yours isn't here, give us a call.
- How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
- Common signs: your main breaker is 100A or less, your panel is a Federal Pacific or Zinsco (known fire risks), you're adding an EV charger or heat pump, you're tripping breakers regularly, or you're planning a major remodel. We can do a quick assessment as part of any quote visit.
- How long does a panel upgrade take?
- A typical residential 100A → 200A service upgrade is a single-day project — power is out for most of the day. Smart panel installs and whole-service replacements with mast and meter work can extend to 2 days.
- What's the difference between a panel and a service upgrade?
- A panel swap replaces just the breaker panel — useful if your panel is failing but your service amperage is fine. A service upgrade increases your home's amperage capacity (e.g., 100A → 200A) and usually includes new meter base, mast, and panel.
- Will I need to be without power during the upgrade?
- Yes — typically a full day. We work with the utility to schedule the disconnect/reconnect and aim to minimize the time your home is without power. We can coordinate around critical needs (e.g., medical equipment).
- Do smart panels work with solar or battery backup?
- Yes — that's one of their main advantages. Smart panels (Span, Lumin) coordinate with solar inverters and battery systems to do automatic load shedding, prioritize critical circuits, and give you visibility into where your power is going.
- Is a permit required?
- Yes, for any service or panel upgrade in Michigan. We pull the permit, do the work to code, and coordinate the inspection. Permit fees are included in our quote.
